Professional Development Program in Mathematics for Elementary Teachers

Interested in strengthening your content knowledge, practice,
and confidence in your ability to teach mathematics?

 

Heartland Educational Consortium and FCR-STEM are offering a six-day program that focuses on effective mathematics teaching and learning in the elementary classroom.

Registration is currently open to K-5 Elementary classroom teachers

 

Participants' responsibilities:

  1. Attend the 6-day Summer Institute during Summer 2017;
  2. Implement lessons/materials/instructional plans during the 2017-2018 school year; and
  3. Complete required evaluations and surveys during the program.

Participants that fully complete the program will receive:

  1. A stipend of $600;
  2. Curriculum resources, lesson plans, and materials to support the implementation of the content, including classroom sets of MyStemKits.com 3D-printed K-5 geometry kits; and
  3. District inservice points approximately 45 hours from required components;

Dates, Times, & Locations

  • Week 1 (Monday-Thursday): June 19-22, 2017 at Heartland Educational Consortium
  • Week 2 (Monday-Tuesday): June 26-27, 2017 at Heartland Educational Consortium
  • The daily meeting times will be 8:00am to 4:30pm. Please plan to arrive prior to 8:00 so that we can start promptly at 8:00.
  • Attendance throughout the 6 day summer institute is required. Participants are expected to attend the institute in its entirety.

 

Tracks & Program Schedule

  • Grades K-2
    • Week 1: Thinking Mathematics Program for K-2
    • Week 2: Geometry for K-5
  • Grades 3-5
    • Week 1: Thinking Mathematics Program for 3-5
    • Week 2: Geometry for K-5

 

Travel

Costs incurred by the teacher (meals, transportation, etc.) are covered by the stipend, and no other travel costs will be reimbursed.

  • Registration is open to K-5 HEC Teachers who did NOT attend the same program in Summer 2016. 20 K-2 and 20 3-5 teachers will be accepted after review of applications, and additional teachers will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified if spots become available.
